The Grenadines - Share the Sail 2012
May 5-15, 2012
Come cruise the idyllic islands of the Southern Caribean and the
Grenadines with Latitudes & Attitudes.
'Go Big or Go Home'? We've chosen to Go Big. We are doing a one-way,
10 day charter on big new 47-50' Catana Catamarans from Dream Yacht
Charters. That's right, no running down and rushing back upwind to
the island you started from. We will be taking a leisurely cruise on
big cats through the best, least crowded, Caribbean Islands. Some of
the islands we intend to bask amongst: Martinique, St. Lucia, St.
Vincent, Bequia, Canouan, Mustique and the amazing Tobago Cays. Come
join us!
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Basic Stuff:
These are not crewed charters with deckhands serving you drinks. This
is a Share the Adventure. All those aboard are expected to Share (to
the best of their ability) in setting the sails, dropping and raising
anchor, drink mixing, meal prep and cleanup. A skipper is on board to
help you learn the ropes ... er, lines. This is as close as you can
get to real cruising without casting off on your own boat!
Cost and Stuff:
Couples $4300 own stateroom
Singles $3300 own stateroom or $2600 shared
$1000 deposit holds your spot.
Cost includes your spot on a sailing yacht, staff skipper and partial
provisioning (most meals). Transportation and meals ashore not
included. Take $100 off cost with current LACC membership. Balance
due 60 days from event.
More info:
Partial provisioning includes basic breakfasts and lunches and a
couple dinners. Most people like to get the local flavor ashore. You
get yourself to the charter base and back and bring trinket and meal money.
We will be sleeping aboard the first night in the marina on beautiful
Martinique. We board the boats 5:30 in the evening of May 5 and
depart the boats May 15 at 11:00am. We do a different anchorage each
night in the islands and a couple days in the Magical Tobago Cays. I
encourage people to leave some time on either end of the adventure to
wind down, explore on their own, or go back to the spot they liked the
best to spend a couple of days. Hopper flights cover most of the
islands.
Flight tips: I won't be booking our flights until the first of the
year but I did have a quick look for you. Exploretrip.com has fares
from Miami MIA-FDF and SVD-MIA $728. Cost from Los Angeles LAX-FDF
and SVD-LAX $1307. Other sites serving the area: AA.com,
Liatairline.com, Skyscanner.com.
To those who book, I will be sending out trip updates on local info,
flight suggestions and accomodations, special events, and the Lats &
Atts What to Bring list and infamouse Crew Questionaire for boat/crew
placement.
The Brochure:
- The West Indies - The West Indies archipelago is 2,000 miles long,
it stretches as an arch from the occidental end of Cuba to the small
Dutch Aruba Island off Venezuela. The Windward Islands form the
oriental part of the arch and stretch over about 630 miles from the
Virgin Islands to Grenada. Martinique is located in the middle of this
arch surrounded North by Dominica and South by St. Lucia. South of
Martinique to the Grenadines sailing to St. Lucia, St. Vincent and
Grenadines.
- Martinique - Indians used to call it "Madinina, flowers' island",
because of its lush tropical vegetation. It is right in the middle of
the West Indies archipelago and is part of the Windward Islands.
Martinique is the most Southern island of the French West Indies. Its
two nearest neighbours are the English-speaking islands Dominica and
St. Lucia. Martinique is 44 miles long and about 20 miles wide. A
French State since 1946, this island will delight you thanks to its
geographical, botanical and social diversity.
